Overlanding the Blue Ridge: Oi Road and Patterson Creek
Apr 22, 2026
We’re continuing our Overlanding the Blue Ridge series with a great combo of trails. Oi Road and Patterson Creek are actually closer to our first entry in the series, Grey Ledge Road, and while the other trails had limited camping, this section more than makes up for it. In just over 7 miles, you’ll find 8 great campsites all along the creek here. There are several water crossings, but outside of flood conditions, none of them should be particularly challenging for a properly outfitted vehicle. If you’re traveling West to East, be sure you make the turn onto Oi Road as Patterson continues, but there’s a gate blocking it just around the corner.
If you want to get the full 100+ mile loop that we’re putting together, be sure to check out Outdoor Adventure Rendezvous. This route can start or end at the event, and OAR is a great chance to meet overlanders from Virginia and around the region.
